About the BRIT Awards
The BRIT Awards are the British music industry's awards, run by the BPI, the association of UK record labels. They were first presented in 1977 and have been held every year since 1982.
The ceremony takes place in February or March; it was always held in London (at the O2 from 2011) until it moved to Co-op Live in Manchester in 2026. Since 2022 the artist categories are no longer split between men and women: there is a single award for British artist and another for international artist.
The history on this page covers Album of the Year and those two artist awards.
