📖 Biography
When Raye opened her set at the O2 Arena in 2023, the crowd felt, for a moment, as if the floor was vibrating with an energy from another planet. The lights melted into the first chords of “Escapism,” and suddenly, the audience found themselves singing along to a song that, until recently, had only played on Spotify playlists and London club speakers.
The early steps of an unexpected voiceRachel Agatha Keen, better known as Raye, was born in the heart of Croydon, South London, in 1997. From childhood, music was like a second skin to her: her first chords emerged among the cables and microphones of a home studio her mother had set up in the living room. There, between raw notes and lyrics written by the light of a desk lamp, the young artist began crafting the unmistakable style she’s known for today.
Her breakthrough into the professional world came with “I, UFO,” a single that, without a big budget, slipped onto British radio and caught the attention of several producers. That first spark opened the door to Polydor Records, giving her the chance to collaborate with names in the electronic and contemporary pop scenes.
From studio sessions to international stagesWhat sets Raye apart from many emerging artists is her ability to blend the intimacy of her songwriting with the power of dance beats. In 2016, “Love Me Again” landed her on the UK charts, but it was her collaboration with DJ Jax Jones on “You Don’t Know Me” that brought her mainstream visibility. Since then, she has worked with talents like KSI, Ty Dolla $ign, and Stormzy, proving her versatility knows no bounds.
2022 marked a turning point: “Escapism” with 070 Shake not only topped the UK official chart but also became an anthem in clubs and on radios worldwide. The song, with its mix of melancholy and infectious rhythm, showcases how Raye balances vulnerability with explosive energy.
A career built on reinventionFor me, what’s most impressive about Raye is her ability to reinvent herself without losing her essence. Every EP or single she releases feels like a piece of a puzzle that
