📖 Biography
Rosalía Vila Tobella (Sant Esteve Sesrovires, 1993) is the most internationally influential Spanish artist of the 21st century. She studied at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, where she developed a vocal technique rooted in deep flamenco — specifically in the styles of Tomás Pavón and La Niña de los Peines — before reinventing her sound for global audiences.
Her debut album Los Ángeles (2017) won the Spanish Music Award for Best New Artist, but it was El Mal Querer (2018) that launched her onto the world stage: a flamenco concept album inspired by a 13th-century Occitan novel, it won the Latin Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Fusion Interpretation. Then came MOTOMAMI (2022): a daring, genre-defying record that mixed reggaeton, dembow, ambient and avant-garde pop. It won the Latin Grammy for Album of the Year and the MTV VMA for Best Music Video, and appeared in virtually every critics' best-albums-of-the-decade list.
Rosalía has collaborated with J Balvin, Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, Travis Scott and Pharrell Williams, among others. Her performances — featuring elaborate, technically demanding choreography — are considered some of the most visually striking in contemporary music. She represents a new kind of international Spanish artist who does not adapt to market demands but reshapes the market around her.
