About the Goya Awards
The Goyas, Spain's national film awards since 1987, have no jury: Academy members decide the winners in two rounds of voting.
They are presented by the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain. The trophy is a bronze bust of Francisco de Goya; the first was made by Miguel Ortiz Berrocal, and it has since been modelled by José Luis Fernández.
The ceremony no longer has a fixed venue: Seville in 2023, Valladolid in 2024, Granada in 2025 and Barcelona in 2026. Films need not be in Spanish, either: Black Bread (Pa negre), in Catalan, won Best Film in 2011.
The history on this page covers the main categories: Best Film, Best Director, the acting awards and Best Ibero-American, European and Animated Film.
