Major League Soccer is the professional league of the United States and Canada. It runs as a closed franchise system with no promotion or relegation, a salary cap and the Designated Player rule that has allowed it to sign international stars.
Format and competition system
A regular season split into Eastern and Western Conferences; the best teams from each play the play-offs, ending in the MLS Cup. The best regular-season record wins the Supporters' Shield.

LA Galaxy has the most MLS Cups, followed by DC United and Sporting Kansas City.
