Marathon Majors — what it is and how it works
The World Marathon Majors bring together the most important city marathons: Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, New York and Tokyo, with new venues gradually joining. They are the races where records fall and where elite runners share the course with tens of thousands of amateurs.
Format and competition system
Each marathon covers 42.195 kilometres on a city course. Berlin is the fastest and flattest, Boston the oldest and toughest by profile, and New York the most crowded.
Honours and dominant teams
Marathon world records have repeatedly fallen in Berlin, and Kenya and Ethiopia have dominated podiums at every venue for two decades.
