Voodoo
📖 About this album
D'Angelo's second album, released in 2000. A cornerstone of neo-soul, with organic funk production by Questlove and a deeply sensual character. It influenced an entire generation of contemporary R&B and soul artists.
📝 Our review
Voodoo appeared fourteen years after D'Angelo's debut and remains one of the most unsettling and coherent neo-soul records in existence. The production is hazy, slow, sexual in a way that goes beyond standard R&B. Questlove builds grooves that feel perpetually on the verge of collapse without ever falling. "Untitled (How Does It Feel?)" is an uncontested classic. D'Angelo took fifteen more years to return. That made sense.
