H.E.R. was actually a compilation of her first EPs but worked as a formal introduction to an artist arriving with a deliberately opaque proposition: no public face, no known name, just the music. The R&B she practices is classical in structure—influences of D'Angelo and Erykah Badu—but with contemporary production. "Focus" and "Every Kind of Way" are her best composition examples. An interesting artist precisely because she doesn't seek easy attention.
