Ctrl
📖 About this album
SZA's debut album, which established her as a generational voice in alternative R&B. The Weekend and Drew Barrymore are already contemporary classics.
📝 Our review
Ctrl is SZA's debut and one of the most honest statements in R&B of the last decade. The lyrics—about broken relationships, insecurities and desire—have a specificity that separates them from the genre's generic sentimentality. The production, handled by Terrace Martin and Pharrell among others, creates a summer night atmosphere that complements the emotional weight of the lyrics. "The Weekend," "20 Something" and "Supermodel" are pieces difficult not to identify with.
