H.E.R. has a voice that blends contemporary R&B precision with direct emotion not always found in the genre. Back of My Mind is a long album — too long — but with genuine moments: the guitar appearing across tracks reminds you there is a serious instrumentalist behind the production. It won the Grammy for Album of the Year. Recognition was deserved though the album as a whole exhausts towards the end.
