📖 Biography

Daft Punk is the most influential electronic music duo of the last thirty years. Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo met in Paris in the 1980s and founded the project in 1993. Their robot personas — full helmets and metal suits — became one of the most recognisable visual identities in popular music.

Homework (1997) defined the sound of French house. Discovery (2001) — the source of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger and One More Time — is the most important electronic pop album of the decade. Random Access Memories (2013), recorded entirely with live musicians as a tribute to the human element in electronic music, won the Grammy for Album of the Year and Record of the Year for Get Lucky, making them the first electronic artists to win the latter.

They dissolved the project in February 2021. Their influence spans genres from nu-disco to EDM to hip-hop — Kanye West's Graduation samples their work, and virtually every electronic producer working today cites them as foundational.
