📖 Synopsis
Neo-Tokyo, 2019. In the city rebuilt on the ruins of Tokyo, which was destroyed by a mysterious explosion in 1988, young Kaneda leads a gang of bikers. When his friend Tetsuo develops psychic powers that threaten to awaken Akira, the force that destroyed the city, the army and government come into conflict. Katsuhiro Otomo adapted his own manga in 1988 into an animated film that redefined the genre and whose visual impact is still visible in current science fiction cinema.
✍️ Our review
Akira is the film that opened anime to Western cinema and forever changed adult animation. Its motorcycle scenes and the destruction of Neo-Tokyo are cult sequences that cinema has never been able to match without a computer. Essential for understanding 20th-century visual SF.
