Midnights arrived as Swift's most confessional album, and largely delivers. Jack Antonoff's minimalist production—cold synthesizers, pulsing bass—creates a late-night atmosphere fitting the lyrics about insomnia and self-sabotage. "Anti-Hero" is one of her most direct singles; "Lavender Haze" and "Marjorie" show her best poetic side. More cohesive than Lover, though some filler tracks dilute the impact.
