1989
📖 About this album
Taylor Swift's fifth studio album and her definitive pop pivot, abandoning country for synth-pop inspired by 1980s production. Produced primarily by Max Martin and Shellback.
📝 Our review
1989 is Taylor Swift reinventing herself with a deliberately eighties-inflected synth-pop that worked far better than expected. Max Martin and Shellback's production gives songs like «Shake It Off» and «Blank Space» a cold, perfect sheen. The break from country was total and convincing. Some ballads drag, but overall this is a top-tier pop album that held up through the streaming era.
