Funeral is Arcade Fire betting everything on their debut and winning. The sound is enormous for an indie record: layers of strings, accordions, xylophones and stacked voices building to a barricade. «Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)», «Wake Up» and «Rebellion (Lies)» grow with every listen. The album captured something about adolescent melancholy and lost innocence that few bands have articulated with such intensity.
