Austin is the album where Post Malone decided he liked country and signed it with his most visible credentials. The irony is it works: his gravelly voice fits the genre aesthetic better than anyone expected. "I Had Some Help" with Morgan Wallen was the obvious hit, but the album has a mood coherence that surprises. A genre pivot that says something about how borders are being erased in American pop.
