Life is Beautiful

Guido Orefice, a man full of wit and love, uses his imagination to protect his son from the horrors of the Nazi concentration camp by turning everything into a game. Roberto Benigni directs and stars in this film, which won three Oscars, including Best Actor for Benigni himself, in one of the most emotional acceptance speeches in the history of the ceremony. A fable about paternal love that confronts horror with poetry and hope.

Benigni deservedly won the Oscar for this film, which achieves the impossible: being a poem about paternal love set in the Holocaust. The ending breaks your heart.
