Travis Bickle is a Vietnam veteran who can't sleep and works as a night taxi driver in the degraded New York of the 70s, observing with horror the rot that surrounds him. His growing obsession with the city and with two women — a campaign volunteer and an adolescent prostitute — leads him to a breaking point. Martin Scorsese filmed with Bernard Herrmann the most violent and poetic portrait of the alienated American urbanite of the 20th century.
