📖 Synopsis
Uruguay, 1972–1985. Three Tupamaro militants—including Pepe Mujica, who would later become president of Uruguay—are captured and subjected to twelve years of extreme isolation and psychological torture under the military dictatorship, held as hostages to suppress the guerrilla movement. Álvaro Brechner directed the most important film in contemporary Uruguayan cinema about inner resistance pushed to the limits of body and mind.
✍️ Our review
A Twelve-Year Night is a film about the inner limits of human beings: what one can endure and what must be remembered. The most honest portrayal of Uruguay under dictatorship. Antonio de la Torre and Chino Darín deliver the performances of their lives.
