Django Unchained

In the southern United States before the Civil War, the slave Django is freed by the German bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz. Together, they travel to Mississippi to rescue Django's wife, Broomhilda, who is enslaved on the plantation of Calvin Candie. Quentin Tarantino filmed his revisionist spaghetti western with stylized violence, incendiary dialogue, and a furiously anachronistic review of slavery that generates deliberate ethical discomfort in every scene.

Tarantino uses the western to talk about slavery with a rage that conventional cinema would not have allowed. Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz are perfect. Violence and black humor in equal proportions, as only he knows how to do.
