The Two Towers
📖 Synopsis
The broken Fellowship, Frodo and Sam bound for Mordor, and Rohan on the brink of war. The trilogy's center, pure epic momentum.
The central volume of The Lord of the Rings has the most thankless job in any trilogy: serving as a bridge. Tolkien solves it by splitting the narrative into two threads — Frodo and Sam towards Mordor, the others in Rohan and Fangorn — each with very different rhythms. The scenes at the Battle of Helm's Deep and the arrival at Lothlórien achieve an epic scale few modern fantasies match. Indispensable within the saga; difficult to evaluate in isolation.
