Westworld

The Westworld theme park simulates the Wild West with androids — called hosts — programmed to satisfy any fantasy of their human guests without moral limits. When the park's director begins to write more complex narratives for the hosts, some start to remember their past lives and question their nature. The series by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy adapts Michael Crichton's novel with a philosophical ambition about free will and artificial consciousness.

Westworld is high-concept science fiction. The first season is a brilliant puzzle. The subsequent ones become more ambitious and less accessible. The work of actors like Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood justifies each episode.
