💡 Travel tips for Amsterdam

• 💡If you rent a bike, learn to brake with your feet: the Dutch do it and will look at you badly if you use the hand brake. Also, bike lanes never stop. If you stop, you’ll be honked at. If you fall, you’ll be insulted in Dutch.
• 💡Tram 2 is the most touristy, but 10 takes you to authentic neighbourhoods like Indische Buurt. Buy a 24‑hour pass at the machine (not on your phone) and hop on without fear: drivers don’t check tickets, but if they catch you without paying, the fine is €90.
• 💡Museums close at 5:00 pm, but cafés don’t open until 6:00 pm. Use that gap to stroll along the Prinsengracht canals: at that hour the golden light reflects on the water and there’s no one around.
• 💡If you’re visiting in winter, bring thermal socks. The Dutch heat their homes to 18 °C and bars are colder than the street. In summer, bring a raincoat: it rains 150 days a year, but never more than 20 minutes at a time.
