• ✅Get lost in the Cathedral without a map: the main altarpiece is so huge it looks like a divine miscalculation, and Columbus’s tomb (or whatever is inside) remains a mystery that even guides don’t dare to solve.
• ✅Have a vermouth at El Rinconcillo (Seville’s oldest bar, 1670) at noon, when the lawyers from the neighboring courthouse order their second tapa of spinach with chickpeas.
• ✅Watch a Holy Week procession from Calle Sierpes: it’s not the same as seeing it on TV as feeling the smell of wax, the sweat of the costaleros, and the hush that falls when the Virgin of the Macarena passes just two metres from you.
• ✅Alternative: Go to a ceramics workshop in Triana. Not the touristy one, but one of those where the master teaches you to wheel a plate while telling you his grandfather worked for Picasso in the 1950s.
• ✅Alternative: Stroll through San Fernando cemetery at sunset. The graves of bullfighters and flamenco singers have more flowers than those of politicians, and the silence is so dense you hear the city’s murmur as if it were miles away.
• ✅Alternative: Seek Seville’s “best‑kept secret”: the courtyard of Casa de Pilatos in January, when the orange trees are laden with fruit and there are no lines. It’s like stepping into an Italian palace without leaving Andalusia.

💡 Travel tips for Seville

• 💡If you go in summer, bring a fan. It’s not just for the heat — which it also helps with — but because Sevillians use it as a language: a quick flick means “it’s scorching hot here”, and a slow one means “I’m not feeling this guy”.
• 💡Tapas hours are sacred: 1:30 pm–3:30 pm and 8:30 pm–11:00 pm. If you arrive at 4:00 pm, you’ll be served whatever is left from lunch, and that in Seville is practically an insult.
• 💡Don’t ask about “Spanish time”. In Seville, Spanish time is the one shown on the Giralda clock, and it’s usually about 20 minutes behind the rest of the world. If you arrange to meet someone at 9:00 pm, they’ll arrive at 9:15 pm. If you show up at 9:00 pm, you’re a tourist.
• 💡If you want to see real flamenco, go to La Carbonería (free) or Casa Anabel (small and authentic). In tourist tablaos, the duende shines by its absence, like a bullfighter without a cape.
