Her contralto voice has a maturity that recalls Sarah Vaughan without sounding like imitation. The jazz standards she chooses — "Misty", "Stardust" — she makes her own without grandiloquence. A new artist who seems to have arrived already fully formed. One of the best vocal jazz albums this generation has produced.
