Future Nostalgia achieved what few pop albums do: sounding completely retro and completely contemporary at once. Dua Lipa and her producers—Mark Ronson, Jeff Bhasker, Stuart Price among others—distilled disco, funk and eighties house with clockmaker precision. "Levitating," "Don't Start Now" and "Physical" are perfect pop machines. The album has a stylistic coherence rarely seen in current mainstream records; it sounds like a whole, not a playlist.
