📖 Biography
Soda Stereo was the most important rock band in Latin American history. Formed in Buenos Aires in 1982 by Gustavo Cerati (guitar, vocals), Zeta Bosio (bass) and Charly Alberti (drums), the band defined the sound of Latin American rock of the 80s and 90s by mixing new wave, post‑punk and alternative rock with Spanish lyrics of unprecedented poetic elegance.
Albums such as Nada Personal (1985), Signos (1986), Doble Vida (1988) and Dynamo (1992) built a fundamental catalog of Spanish‑language rock. But it was Sueño Stereo (1995) and especially Comfort y Música Para Volar and the single De Música Ligera that cemented their legacy. The band managed to fill stadiums in Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela at a time when no Latin group had achieved anything similar.
After a split in 1997 and a triumphant reunion in 2007 with the tour Me Verás Volver, which filled the River Plate stadium for three consecutive nights, the band dissolved permanently with the death of Gustavo Cerati in 2014, after four years in a coma caused by a stroke. Their music remains a mandatory point of reference for any Spanish‑language rock artist.
