Roma

Mexico City, 1970-1971. Cleo is the indigenous domestic worker of a middle-class family in the Roma neighborhood who faces a solitary pregnancy while the family disintegrates due to the parents' separation. Alfonso Cuarón filmed his own childhood memories in black and white as an intimate tribute to Liboria Rodríguez, the woman who raised him, with a sensitivity towards invisible work and social class that few films of its caliber have dared to exhibit.

Roma is Cuarón's most personal film: childhood memories in black and white with the precision of a daguerreotype. Yalitza Aparicio, in her debut, creates a character of containment and presence that few actresses achieve.
