📖 Synopsis
Harry Powell is a murderous preacher with the words "LOVE" and "HATE" tattooed on his knuckles, hunting for the $10,000 hidden by his deceased cellmate before he died. The only ones who know where the money is hidden are the man's two children, John and Pearl. Charles Laughton directed this, his only film as director, in 1955, crafting it like a dark fairy tale with the most expressionistic cinematography in 1950s American cinema. Robert Mitchum delivers one of the most menacing villains in classic film history.
✍️ Our review
The Night of the Hunter is Charles Laughton's sole directorial effort and one of the most unique films in American cinema: German expressionist cinematography, a terrifying fairy tale, and Robert Mitchum creating the most chilling preacher in classic film history.
