Avatar

The 22nd century. On the moon Pandora, humans exploit a valuable mineral called unobtanium, threatening the Na'vi people who inhabit the planet. The paralyzed marine Jake Sully joins the Avatar program, which allows humans to control synthetic Na'vi bodies, and is torn between the military mission he is entrusted with and the world he begins to love. James Cameron took twelve years to make the highest-grossing film in history with technology that did not exist in 2009.

Avatar is above all a technological achievement that redefined 3D and blockbuster cinema. The story is archetypal, but the immersion in Pandora still works. The sequel "The Way of Water" surpasses the original in underwater scenes.
