Tampico Chat

#tampico is ChatZona's room for the Tamaulipas port and a metro area that ignores the state line: Ciudad Madero and Altamira on the Tamaulipas side, Pueblo Viejo and Pánuco on the Veracruz side, linked by the Tampico and Moralillo bridges and the boats that cross the Pánuco river.

Nobody is in #tampico yet, so the join button also puts you in #tamaulipas and the Mexico room, which has people around the clock. If you meet someone from the port there, you already have a room of your own to move to.

The Laguna del Carpintero sits right in town, linked to the Pánuco by the Canal de la Cortadura and home to Morelet's crocodile. Ciudad Madero hosts the Francisco I. Madero refinery with its own docks, Tampico is the seat of Mexico's First Naval Zone, and in 1829 the Spanish expedition led by Isidro Barradas, sent to reconquer Mexico, was defeated at the Battle of Tampico. Mexico's first Coca-Cola bottling plant was built here in 1926, and for one of the most humid cities in the country, it even has a recorded snowfall: 14 February 1895.
