About Reynosa Chat
Plenty of people in Reynosa live with a foot on each side of the border: the city borders Hidalgo County, Texas, and forms one of the big cross-border metro areas with McAllen. #reynosa is ChatZona's room for the city, for Río Bravo, which shares its metro area, and for anyone who crosses every day.
The room opens with this page and has nobody in it yet. The same button connects you to #tamaulipas and the Mexico room, where people are chatting at any hour.
The town was founded on 14 March 1749 during José de Escandón's expedition and named after Reinosa, in Cantabria, Spain — home town of the viceroy Güemes y Horcasitas. Clerical misspellings turned the "i" into a "y", and that spelling stuck when it became a city in 1926; back in 1802 the whole town had moved some eight kilometres downriver to escape the Bravo's floods. Today it runs on manufacturing plants — LG, Panasonic and Corning among them — and a Pemex gas facility, and since the mid-1990s it has been the most populous city in the state.
Reynosa is in the border strip and changes its clocks along with Texas. For the rest of the state see Tamaulipas Chat; for next-door Monterrey, Monterrey Chat.
