Hoover shows here that she can do something different from her usual romance fare: the thriller pacing works, the tension holds and the manuscript the protagonist discovers is one of the most effective narrative devices the author has used. The twist is not the most elaborate in genre fiction but lands well. Darker and more solid than her romantic work, it deserves attention from those who might have overlooked her for that reason.
