Kvothe is a protagonist who talks himself up constantly, which will either irritate or captivate depending on the reader. The worldbuilding is among fantasy's most elaborate, with a magic system that feels genuinely real. The problem: the trilogy has been unfinished for years with no sign of a conclusion. A risk worth taking if you let yourself sink into the world.
