Sanderson built a magic system and a world so elaborately detailed they could warrant a university course. The Way of Kings is long — too long for some — but the worldbuilding has an internal consistency that the genre rarely achieves. The characters have emotional arcs that work beyond the spectacle. The problem is the time commitment the full series demands. For epic fantasy fans unafraid of a brick-sized book who want the best worldbuilding in the genre today.
