📖 Synopsis

The plateau, the elms and the grief for an empty Spain and a lost wife. Machado's deepest, most Spanish poetry.

✍️ ChatZona's review

The Machado poetry that hurts deepest and lasts longest. The images of bare Castile, ancient elms, running water, and grief for Leonor form an emotional landscape that still belongs to us. Not easy reading for those unfamiliar with verse, but three poems are enough to understand why he is considered one of the greats. "A un olmo seco" and "Campos de Soria" rank among the most beautiful texts in Spanish literature.
