Rick and Morty

Rick Sanchez, the smartest scientist in the universe and a functional alcoholic, drags his grandson Morty on adventures through alternate dimensions, strange planets, and impossible realities while sharing a house with his daughter's family on Earth. Created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, the series parodies classic science fiction — Doctor Who, Back to the Future, Star Trek — with an existential nihilism that hides genuine tenderness beneath the gore and portals.

Rick and Morty is nihilistic science fiction disguised as adult comedy. Its best episodes are top-notch science fiction writing with humor that's impossible to replicate in a family context. Irregular in quality from season to season, but at its peak, it's unique.
