• ✅Alternative: Stay in a cabin in Glenorchy: 45 minutes from Queenstown, the village is the gateway to the Lord of the Rings scenery. Rent a cabin with no Wi-Fi, a fireplace and mountain views. At night the sky fills with stars and the silence is so deep you can hear your own heartbeat.
• ✅Alternative: Do the Routeburn Track in a day: It’s one of New Zealand’s Great Walks, but you can do just the first part (about 4 hours round‑trip). The trail winds through red beech forest, crosses hanging bridges and ends at a waterfall where the water crashes with such force it soaks you to the bone. Few tourists venture that far from town.
• ✅Alternative: Try the 'Fergburger' at 3 a.m.: The line wraps around the block, but at that hour there are no tourists, only drunk and hungry locals. 💡 Travel tips for Queenstown

• 💡If you’re going to bungee or skydive, wear long socks: The harness rubs your ankles and after the jump your skin burns. No one tells you, but everyone who’s jumped knows it.
• 💡In winter, ski until 3 p.m.: At that hour the slopes are empty and the golden light makes the mountains look like gold. Plus, the base‑area bars start to fill and the beer tastes better after a day in the snow.
• 💡Don’t buy the Skyline gondola pass: Hike up the Tiki Trail (1 hour) on foot. The view from the top is the same, but the path is lined with native trees and, if you’re lucky, you’ll see keas (alpine parrots) stealing food from tourists.
• 💡If you rent a car, fill up in Cromwell: Fuel is cheaper than in Queenstown, and the town has a gold museum with a mine you can visit. Moreover, the drive between Cromwell and Queenstown is one of the most beautiful roads in the world (and there’s competition).
