Psychodrama is Dave telling his story — growing up in Streatham, a father's absence, mental health — with lyrical precision that puts most contemporary British rap to shame. Inflo's production is dense and enveloping. «Black», «Lesley» and the instrumental opening the record are moments of uncommon ambition for a debut. Dave won the Mercury Prize in 2019 and fully justified it.
