Fine Line is Harry Styles stepping out of One Direction's shadow with surprising confidence. The folk and 70s soul-inflected pop rock sounds genuine rather than manufactured. «Watermelon Sugar», «Adore You» and «Falling» work in very different registers. Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson's production gives the album an analog warmth that serves the songs well. A convincing debut that grew over time.
