Barrio Bravo is the album that took Monterrey's rebajada cumbia beyond working-class neighbourhoods: Celso Piña blended norteño accordion with Jamaican rhythms, hip-hop and electronics in a way that sounded like science fiction in 2001. «Cumbia sobre el río» remains his best song.
