📝 Our review
Barrio Bravo is the album that took Monterrey's rebajada cumbia beyond working-class neighbourhoods: Celso Piña blended norteño accordion with Jamaican rhythms, hip-hop and electronics in a way that sounded like science fiction in 2001. «Cumbia sobre el río» remains his best song. The album has the energy of something made purely for love of sound, without commercial calculation. That shows.
