📖 Biography

Björk is the most original and courageous artist in popular music of the last three decades. Born in Reykjavik in 1965, she began her career with The Sugarcubes before embarking in 1993 on a solo adventure without parallel in contemporary music. Each of her albums is a self-contained world: Debut (electronic dance), Post (big beat and orchestral pop), Homogenic (string arrangements over electronic beats), Vespertine (microscopic textures and Inuit throat singing).

Medúlla (2004) was made almost entirely of vocal sounds. Biophilia (2011) came with its own app ecosystem exploring the relationship between music, nature and technology. Vulnicura (2015) is one of the most devastating break-up albums ever recorded. Utopia (2017) imagined a feminist utopia populated by flutes and birdsong.

She is also a film actress — her performance in Lars von Trier's Dancer in the Dark (2000) won Best Actress at Cannes. Her visual collaborations with Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze have been as influential as the music itself.
