Zizur Mayor Chat

Sunday afternoon and the room fills up twenty minutes before kick‑off. Miguel, a 34‑year‑old barista from Pamplona, logs in from his kitchen table with a coffee mug that reads “¡Fútbol y café!” He remembers his first night here, when the chat was a handful of locals arguing over who’d win the “El Clásico” that year. The thrill of hearing the same voice typing “¡Sigue, tío!” in the middle of a debate kept him coming back, even when he’s stuck in traffic.

On match days, the chatter erupts: someone questions whether Mbappé or Vinicius can break the 100‑km‑h‑speed record, while a 60‑year‑old ex‑teacher compares the current tactics of the Spanish national squad to those of the 1990s. In between, a young engineer from Zaragoza asks for tips on moving to Berlin, and a retired nurse from Madrid shares a recipe for “tortilla de patata” that has become a meme. Arguments are sharp, but the banter stays within the bounds of good humor, and there’s always a moment for a nostalgic throwback to the early days of the Internet.

What sets this room apart is the blend of accents that sounds like a Spanish bar in the Basque Country on a rainy afternoon. The “Zizur” nickname is a secret code only the long‑time users understand, and every Friday night there’s a tradition of posting a photo of the week’s best tapas. The room lights up between 10 p.m. And 2 a.m., when the old timers still talk about the “Copa del Rey” of the 80s, and newcomers can catch a glimpse of the unspoken history that only a handful of people know.

You don’t need to register to join. Just pick a nickname, fire up the ChatZona app or a browser, and log in. The channel has been alive on real IRC since 2007, so you’ll find a familiar vibe from the first ping. If you don’t get a reply within the first two minutes, it would be unusual—most users are quick to answer a new question or start a joke.
