Zaratán Chat

On a rainy Tuesday night, Carlos from Zaragoza stumbles into #Zaratán after a long day at the office. He types his nickname, "Zaratec", and watches the chat flicker to life. A few minutes later, a familiar voice, "¡Eh, Carlos! ¿Qué pasa?" greets him. Carlos, who first logged in last month chasing a rumor about a new tapas bar, finds himself back because the room always feels like a second living room, complete with the same jokes about the local fútbol rivalry and the endless stream of memes that only locals understand.

Within the first few minutes, the conversation pivots from a heated debate about whether Mbappé or Vinicius should be the next Barcelona star to a nostalgic thread about the 1998 football season in Zaragoza. Someone shares a recipe for "migas" while another asks for advice on moving to Madrid for a job. The tone swings from dry humor—"Si el jefe te pide la lista de compras, ponle 'pescado' y 'tortilla'"—to genuine support when a user posts a picture of a broken phone, and others offer quick troubleshooting tips.

What sets #Zaratán apart is the blend of accents and the inside jokes that have survived since 2007. Every Friday at 8 p.m. Local time, a silent countdown starts: "¡Cuenta regresiva de 5 a 1!" followed by a chorus of “¡A la calle!” that only regulars recognize. The room also has a tradition of swapping the names of the city’s most famous landmarks in code—like calling the cathedral "La Casa de los 12 Puentes"—and a quirky rule that no one can mention the word "mañana" in a single message.

To hop in, just open the ChatZona client on your phone or desktop, type any nickname you like, and hit #Zaratán. No registration, no fees, just instant connection. The room has been buzzing since 2007, and it would be unusual if nobody replied within the first two minutes.
