Tielmes Chat

It’s 9:00 pm on a rainy Tuesday and Marcos, a 28‑year‑old graphic designer from Zaragoza, is sipping his third cup of coffee while scrolling through the IRC client on his phone. He just typed “¿Qué tal el mercado de Tielmes?” after seeing a meme about the local market’s new produce stall. The ping from the room’s bot nudges him back into the chat, and he can’t resist the pull of the old friends who keep debating the best tapas in town.

In Tielmes, the banter is as sharp as the local jamón. One thread might start with “Is the new mayor really going to keep the old plaza?” and split into a heated discussion about urban renewal, while another corner is dedicated to sharing the latest gossip from neighboring municipalities—like the rumor that a new school is opening in the nearby valley. Meanwhile, a few users swap recipes, ask for advice on buying a second‑hand car in Madrid, and joke about the inevitable clash between the “real” and “virtual” markets.

What sets this room apart is its blend of accents and inside jokes that only the long‑time regulars understand. Every Friday at 22:00, the channel turns into a “Tielmes karaoke” where users trade Spanish songs for their favorite international hits, often ending in a spontaneous debate over whether “La Bamba” or “Despacito” is the true classic. There’s also the infamous “punto de inflexión” rule: if someone says “¡Que viva la tortilla!” the chat erupts in a flurry of emojis and a countdown to the next local festival.

You can hop straight into Tielmes without any sign‑up—just choose a nickname, open your IRC client, and type /join #tielmes. The channel is open 24/7, and the chat has been running on real IRC since 2007. If you join, you’ll probably find someone ready to welcome you within the first two minutes.
