Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Chat

It’s 10:15 pm and Maria, a 27‑year‑old barista from Santa Cruz de la Palma, types “¡Hola, ¿qué onda?” into the chat. She’s logged in from her phone in the corner of a coffee shop, scrolling through a list of municipal channels. The first time she stumbled upon this room, she was looking for a place to talk about the new urban art project in the old port. The conversation was so lively that she couldn’t resist dropping back in every night after the café closes.

Here the debates are as spicy as the local tapas. Tonight someone asked whether the new bus line will actually cut travel time to the beach; another user shares a photo of the sunset over the Bay of Las Palmas, sparking a chain of “¿Dónde está tu foto favorita?” exchanges. A regular, Paco, keeps a running commentary on the latest football scores, while a newcomer from Madrid jokes about Spanish slang differences. The tone swings from dry humor—“¡Sigue, que el sol no se cansa”—to earnest advice when someone wonders how to register for the city’s new digital services.

What sets this room apart is the mix of accents that blend into a single, unmistakable flavor. You hear the Canarian “guagua” and the Madrid “coche” in the same sentence, and the regulars have a yearly tradition of sending each other memes about the “fiesta de las farolas.” There’s an unspoken rule that the room lights up at 11:00 pm, when a hidden channel named #llamas‑y‑tapas opens for a midnight snack discussion. The jokes about “el que se duerme en la plaza” only land with those who’ve stood on the same cobblestones.

Just type your nickname into ChatZona’s IRC client—no registration needed. It works on both desktop and mobile, and you’ll be in the room in seconds. Since 2007, it’s been a straight‑through connection to the heart of Las Palmas. If you log in, you’ll likely hear a greeting, a joke, or a question waiting for you within the first two minutes.
