Ituren Chat

On a rainy Tuesday night, Carlos from Zaragoza taps the keys in his cramped apartment, scrolling through the list of rooms on ChatZona. He spots “Ituren” and, after a quick search, joins the channel with a nickname that sounds like a local. He remembers the first time he wandered in on a Sunday: a stranger had asked if anyone knew how to fix a broken washing machine, and the room erupted in a mix of Spanish, Basque, and a few English phrases. That instant, he felt seen, and he’s been logging in every week ever since.

In the chat, you’ll hear debates over the best pintxos spot in San Sebastián, heated exchanges about whether the new Spanish election will swing to the left, and a handful of techies joking about the latest update to the IRC client. A regular from Madrid will drop a meme about “La Movida” while someone from Málaga explains the intricacies of Andalusian flamenco. There’s a thread that never dies: the “¿Quién es mejor, Messi o Ronaldo?” discussion that starts with a dry joke and ends with a shared nostalgia for 2008.

No other room has the signature mix of Basque slang, Andalusian drawl, and a sprinkle of English that only a few members pick up. Every Friday at 9 pm, a ritual kicks off when the channel’s bot drops a trivia question about the “ituren” municipality, and the first correct answer earns a virtual “golden pintxo” emoji. The regulars even have an inside joke: if someone types “tortilla” in all caps, the room erupts with a chorus of “¡Tortilla, tortilla, tortilla!” That tradition keeps the vibe alive long after the official hours.

Joining is effortless—no sign‑up required. Just launch your IRC client, connect to chatzona.com, and type “/join #ituren” with any nickname you like. Whether you’re on a phone or a desktop, the room is ready to welcome you. It would be unusual if nobody replied within the first two minutes.
