English Chat for Spanish Speakers

You remember Lucy, the English teacher who was always going on about "the importance of contextualization" but could never find the chance to actually practice it in class? Well, one day she got tired of spinning her wheels in the classroom and decided to look for a place online where she could do it for real. That's how she ended up in the English Chat for Spanish Speakers a few months ago.

In this room, there's constant debate about "take it easy" vs "take it seriously". Someone's asking about finding work in Berlin without speaking German, and it's sparked a full discussion about whether the best way to learn English is through movies or literature. The vibe is casual, with some attempts at dry humor, but always with a dose of kindness and mutual help. And of course, nobody takes the "Mbappé or Vinicius" debate too seriously when it comes up every month.

What makes this room truly unique is its "Mondayless English" tradition, where everyone gets together to speak Spanish about something. It's a custom that's been going on for years, and this is the only room where you'll find it. Plus, there's a room-specific phrase that gets used every time someone asks "did you watch that movie?", which basically means "are you talking about the Harrison Ford one?" in other chats. And don't be surprised if someone asks about "dinner time" in the middle of a discussion.

No registration needed, just pick a nickname, log in from your phone or PC, and jump in. ChatZona's been running real IRC since 2007, so no worries about the tech side. Type, choose a name, and get in. The room's already open, waiting for you to share whether you're the type to sing along to English songs full volume or if you hide until the whole thing blows over. It'd be weird if nobody answered you in the first two minutes.
