#honduras is a mid-sized room, and that shapes it more than anything else: nicknames get recognised from one week to the next, and the conversation does not vanish under a hundred messages a minute the way it does in the big rooms. Two or three visits and you already know who you will run into.

The country arrives split between its two centres — Tegucigalpa inland in the mountains and San Pedro Sula down in the valley, the industrial city and the one that sends most people abroad — followed by La Ceiba and the Caribbean coast, with its own accent, and the islands.

A steady part of the room writes from the United States: Miami, Houston, New Orleans. Honduras stays on UTC−6 with no clock changes, so the US east coast runs an hour or two ahead and stretches the Honduran evening.
