About Euro Cup Chat

The guy who comes in every four years with the nick *@Austria1996* doesn't fail. He has the 2008 Euro jersey hanging in his apartment closet in Salzburg, but here, in this room, he calls himself "the eternal substitute of the national team". His first time was in 2012, when Spain broke Italy's heart in the final and he, drunk on beer and rage, blurted out a "this is shit football" that earned him a 24-hour ban. He came back the next year, as if nothing had happened. Now, when the initial whistle blows for a match, he lets out a "Let's go, we won't get robbed today!" and dives into discussing every foul as if the referee were listening from the screen. It doesn't matter if his team isn't playing: for him, every Euro Cup is a personal revenge against the world.

The debates here aren't like those in a bar, they're like trench warfare. At 3 am, someone asks if Pedri is better than Xavi at 20, and in five minutes there are three different threads: one with passing statistics, another with play screenshots where Pedri "gets lost" on the field, and a third where a user from Valencia swears Xavi was uglier but smarter. Refereeing controversies are sacred: VAR is discussed as if the operator were a drunk guy from the village, and every dubious penalty generates a parallel thread where the camera angle, player shadow, and whether the referee has a bribery look are analyzed. There's also room for the absurd: in 2021, a user proposed a symbolic quiniela (the prize was a meme of Courtois crying) and now, every tournament, someone revives the tradition. And then there are those who come just to say: "Why doesn't anyone talk about England winning?" and leave before halftime.

What this room doesn't have anywhere else is silence. When Spain loses a key match, for five minutes there's not a single message. Just the sound of keyboards holding their breath, as if everyone were in the same stadium and had just conceded a goal in the 93rd minute. Then, someone writes "well, at least it wasn't like the 4-0 to Italy" and the room comes back to life, but with a different tone, as if the duel had lasted those exact five minutes. There are also unwritten traditions: on Tuesdays, after the Champions League day, *@ElMister* always shows up to say "it's the fault of modern coaches" and a debate ensues until dawn. And no one dares to bring up the topic of the 2000 final without mentioning Toldo's penalty, because if they don't, *@Italia1982* reminds them that "that was a robbery" and it all starts over.

You don't need registration, invitation, or knowledge of what IRC is. Enter with whatever nick you want, from your phone or computer, and type "hello" in the room. ChatZona has been around since 2007, and here football doesn't stop when the match ends. If you connect during a Spain-Germany match, be prepared to be asked in the first two minutes if you think Rodri is better than Busquets. If it's an Iceland-Portugal match, someone will say "this is like watching a painting" and a discussion will start about whether football should be beautiful or effective. The strange thing would be if nobody
